Here you go:

I also want to make sure I understand how backup recovery works. This

data file has a log attached.

If I recovered from last nights backup, run server and attached the

log created, would not 4D have updated based upon log activity events

that had not been committed to the server.

Correct, that's the idea of the log file.  In fact, if a data file is

damaged, this is the recommended recovery technique as it completely

circumvents the damage.

Kind regards,

Josh Fletcher

Hi Chuck,

Is there a difference in the end result (between running 4D Tools:

Compact and 4D Tools:Repair). Won't compact fix any

corruption as it writes to new data file.

No, "compact" does not fix any corruption, and I would strongly advise

never to compact a datafile that is suspected to contain corruption.
 If

you have problems, you want to "Repair".  If this doesn't do the job,
use

DataCheck.  If this doesn't do the job, choose 'Recover by Tags'
(RbT), but

take a careful record count of each table before and after you do
this, so

you know the extent to which RbT deleted records or brought others back

from the dead.

I also want to make sure I understand how backup recovery works. This

data file has a log attached.

Sorry, can't help you on that one; the restoration using a log is
something

I haven't done, but docs are here:

ftp://ftp2-public.4d.fr/Documents/Products_Documentation/LastVersions/Line
_2004/VIntl/PDF_Format/4D_2004_User_Ref.pdf

See page 356.
