On the same machine, OS 10.5.5, I'm running 4D 2004.7r3 and v11.3 side
by side.
Current machine owner gives the following:
2004: jebowen -- the Unix (Darwin)
"short name"
v11: John Bowen -- the Unix (Darwin) "long name"
Nothing fatal, I think, just that it wasn't mentioned in the docs or
addenda, far as I can tell. The text in the "long name" is, well, a
little longer. For those logging events to a file, etc., it's just
something to consider. For those who used the short form name in
exports, as a folder name with bash scripts, as part of a URL, etc.,
etc., it might pay to keep an eye out. For instance, O'Neill has an
apostrophe, as it should; not sure what the short form would be.
The short name was not only short, but guaranteed to be pretty
friendly, as in it did not contain spaces, apostrophes, periods . . .
OK, that's the owner. Anyone have any thoughts on the Current machine
function?
Thanks,
John

John,
I just ran a test on my system, and I get the same values for both of
these
commands:
Current Machine Owner = Windows Login Name (steveo)
Current Machine = Windows PC Network Name (SJO-AWLaptop)
In both 2004 and V11 the same value is returned, as shown above.
Steve
